Same maker. Different watches. Different routes.

A profile is not a ranking

Outsourcing to a world-class specialist isn't inferior to making a part in-house. Darker means more of the work happens inside the brand, not that the watch is better. Scores are never added together.

The seven dimensions

MA Movement architecture
Who is responsible for the caliber's mechanical architecture and engineering?
MM Movement manufacturing
How much of the movement is physically manufactured by the brand or atelier?
EX Exterior manufacturing
How much of the case, bracelet, crown and other exterior hardware is physically made internally?
DH Dial & hands manufacturing
How much of dial and hand production is performed internally?
CF Craft & finishing
What meaningful artisanal transformation is physically performed inside the brand or atelier?
WE Watchmaking execution
What watchmaking occurs after the components exist?
PD Product development
How much original product design, supplier direction and technical development belongs to the brand?

Records that test the method

How this was built

This framework and reference dataset were developed in part with the assistance of AI. AI was used to help structure the methodology, compare edge cases, organize research and draft this handbook. The system is intended to be evidence-led and open to correction: individual claims and profiles should ultimately be traceable to public sources.
